The Systems You Need to Run a Successful Business

If you’re like me, you want your business to run on autopilot so that when life happens (which it will) and there are challenges (there will be), you can handle them in stride. Here are my 5 recommended systems for running an incredibly successful, systemised and automated business.

Lead Generation
You must develop a proven method of advertising, marketing, and promotion in order to maintain a continuous flow of qualified leads. Your company's sales and income will dry up rapidly if you don't have a consistent and continuing stream of leads. This can put your company's existence at risk.
My recommended method for automated lead generation is through a simple lead generation funnel.
I've covered the 5 steps for creating a lead generation funnel in my 'Make It Easier Series' so if you want to know more about gaining leads on autopilot them jump over and check out the 5 posts.

Lead Conversion
To convert interested prospects into customers, you need to have a proven sales system in place. The system may begin with some kind of sales call with you where you move through a pre-planned script to nurture your new lead through to a completed sale. If you are using a script that has proven to be successful with converting sales, it's critical that you document it. Even if you're the only person 'selling' in your business right now, this may not always be the case, and to ensure consistency within your business a sales script will allow anyone talking to potential customers to know exactly what to say throughout the entire process.

Delivery System
To fulfill orders and deliver the product on time, you need to develop a step-by-step delivery system. A reliable delivery system, with clearly documented steps, will enable you to get your product or service out to the customer efficiently and quickly with minimum delays.

Service Systems
Having written policies and procedures in place for providing follow-up service to your customers is an integral part of any business system. A service system should include ways to handle customer complaints, how to generate additional sales, how to ask for referrals from satisfied customers, and how to alert your current customers of new products and services your business offers.

Personnel Systems
Your business needs to develop written systems that describe each position in your company and how it is done, as well as methods for training new employees and personnel relations. Each of your employees needs to know what is expected of them and the standard of quality he or she are required to meet.
If you're currently a solopreneur don't skip over this part just because you're looking after all the positions in your business right now. As your business scales the time will come to bring on team members or outsource the parts of your business that you shouldn't be doing yourself, so having a standardised system in place to make sure things are done in a consistent way is critical.

For each of the systems I've outlined above I highly recommend that you use a Standard Operating Procedure template to document your exact process and system.
I have a template exactly for this purpose, and you can get your hands on it right here.
