Get Your Sales Funnel Basics Sorted

I love a good sales funnel.

I enjoy the strategy that goes into crafting a profitable and solid sales funnel, looking at the journey my customer is going to take with my business through this funnel.

It’s one of my favorite things to create in my business.

But I know that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

It can be overwhelming, confusing and a daunting prospect for so many coaches and consultants.

It’s an area that I get questions about all the time.

  1. Do I really need a sales to funnel?
  2. How do I even start building one?
  3. What do I include in one?

So today I’m going to share with you the basic components of a solid sales funnel so you can start the exciting journey of creating yours for your next offer.

A sales funnel can be suited to any offer in your business, whether it’s an online service, face-to-face service, physical product, or digital product.

But if your funnel isn’t solid, your profit potential will be much lower, and the hard work you’ve put into your product or service will not be as profitable as it could be.

So to maximize the effectiveness of your sales funnel these are the basic components that you want to include.

A Good Squeeze Page

A squeeze page is a landing page where a ‘value exchange’ between you and your lead takes place. You offer something of great value to your lead (your lead magnet - so an ebook, checklist, training series, discount code, etc) and in exchange, the lead gives you their contact information (typically name and email address).

Once you have their email address you are going to deliver the lead magnet to them and now you’re also able to follow up with them and nurture them towards your business more.

Email Marketing

This is where good email marketing practices come into place. You are setting yourself up as a trusted expert in your field. Over time, your lead will come to trust you and your recommendations.

Through your emails, you will provide a link to your core offer sales page.

At some point in time, it’s likely that your prospect will visit it.

Your Sales Page

Now your lead has arrived at the sales page for your offer this is the place that you want to convert them to a customer.

There are a number of factors that need to be considered in a winning sales page.

Being clear on your value proposition, the benefits, usefulness, and uniqueness of your product, and how it will empower and support your lead when they buy it.

All of these aspects working together will work towards converting your lead into a paying customer.

Upsells & Downsells

Once your customer has purchased it’s a great time to share some upsells or one-time-offer’s (commonly referred to as OTO’s). This is an enhancement of your main offer that provides greater value to it or is a related offer that will help to provide more value to the main offer.

If your customer purchases your upsell then you will need to deliver that, in addition to their core offer purchase to them.

There can be a number of upsells in a quality sales funnel, all of which are targeted to provide increased value to your customer while providing increased revenue to you.

Now if your new customer decides to reject an upsell, you may decide to present them with a down-sell, which is an offer either identical or very similar to the upsell they’ve just rejected, but with one or more components of the corresponding upsell missing and offered at a lower price.

The idea of a down-sell is to encourage the customer not to walk away without increasing the value of their original purchase, so the down-sell is offered as a compromise to the rejected upsell offer.

So these are the components that you should include for a WINNING funnel:

A squeeze page, quality email marketing messages convincing your prospect to visit your core offer sales page, the associated sales page for that offer, a combination of one or more upsells and downsells to add value to the main product and add profits for you.
