So, you’ve got an idea for an online course and you’re ready to get creating?

Not so quickly lovely.

It may seem a bit backward, but creating the content for your course shouldn’t be at the top of your list.

What comes first?

Selling it!

You may be thinking that I’ve completely lost it...that you can’t sell something you haven’t created, but trust me on this. You can...and you should!

I’m going to share with you the three best ways to marketing your online course, using tried and true techniques that will boost customer interest and improve the overall success of your online course.

1. Preselling your course.

So why do we presell something that we haven’t created? In short, because it validates the demand for our course and stops us from wasting time, money and energy creating something that no-one wants to buy.

Some prework goes into preselling though.

You’re going to need:

  • A course name
  • An intriguing and compelling outline of your course.
  • Learning outcomes
  • The price.

You should also determine a minimum interest amount. This is the minimum number of people that should be interested in purchasing your course for you to start creating it.

Using all this information, build a sales page for your course and take it to market.

If enough people purchase the course, then go ahead and create it.

If you don’t reach your minimum interest number, it’s an indication that you shouldn’t proceed with creating your course. Simply refund those who were interested and explain that there wasn’t enough interest in the course to proceed.

2. Promote on multiple platforms

This may seem a bit like stating the obvious but it’s something obvious that often gets overlooked. Many people market on the platforms they’re most comfortable on and only them. Sure, you probably use your blog and Twitter account to promote your course, but there are many other platforms that you can use to extend your reach to get more customers.

A customised landing page, Instagram Posts, Instagram Stories, Facebook posts, Facebook Ads, Snapchat Stories and Reddit are all great platforms to promote your online course.

In fact, it’s recommended that you use as many platforms as you can manage. Using more platforms results in a well-rounded launch because it promotes your course in different ways. It enables you to promote via videos, slideshows, blog posts, social media posts, and more. This will help you reach a wider audience and result in more opportunities to find those potential clients and sell your course.

When you use multiple platforms though, be sure to stick to a consistent branding voice. This will cause your users to identify your course and offerings.

3. Create an extensive email list.

Finally, the third way to market your online course is to create an extensive email list that you can market to.

An email list is the easiest and most effective way to reach out to customers and engage with them to buy your product.

If you don’t have a big list, or not sure how many people you should have on your list before you launch I’ve got you covered.
